We are delighted to be representing a leading utilities, Semi State Organization, that are responsible for maintaining and operating a core utility service throughout Ireland. Our client has offices in both Cork and Dublin and are searching for a Commercial Lawyer to join the legal supply chain team.

The Supply Chain team is responsible for the procurement of goods and services to support the business throughout Ireland and is supported by the legal team in respect of contracts and procurement matters.

Your new role

In your new role you will be responsible for the procurement of goods and services to support the business as the Supply Chain is supported by the legal team in respect of contracts and procurement matters.
You will therefore be working on a large variety of agreements to procure goods and services and should have a working knowledge of procurement legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the Legal team and the business in Ireland in providing in-house legal advice for all Supply Chain and procurement matters, including construction contracts.
  • Drafting, negotiating, reviewing, updating various tender documents, standard form and bespoke contracts.
  • Managing and supporting third party specialists, including external lawyers to deliver required business outcomes.
  • Identifying areas of potential legal risk, developing reporting structures in relation to those risks and conducting reviews where required.
  • Promoting legal awareness and communicating to the business when legal input should be sought.
  • Monitoring relevant construction and procurement legislative changes and case-law affecting the conduct of the company’s business.
  • Ensuring that continuing professional development is maintained and that professional knowledge remains current, by participating in appropriate training / courses / seminars.
  • Other duties as required from time-to-time

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Solicitor with minimum 4 years post qualification, including at least 2 years in commercial contracts – experience of construction and/or health and safety laws advantageous but not essential.
  • Knowledge of public procurement procedures and legislation desirable.
  • Knowledge of standard form construction contracts and legislation desirable.
  • Ability to deal confidently and professionally on day-to-day issues and handle complex issues with limited supervision.
  • Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
  • Solution-orientated, i.e. ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than a purely 'academic' approach to legal issues.
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance.
