Hays Recruitment are currently recruiting an experienced Contracts Manager to join our client, a leading M+E contractor based in Kerry.


Job Descriptions

  • Promote the application of the MEP Department Management Systems and Procedures providing technical support, guidance, and direction in overall delivery of Projects.
  • Support the MEP Department “value proposition” and its alignment with the business units and company’s vision, values, and ambition objectives.
  • Assist in delivery of the MEP Department Strategy Plan in support of the business units’ objectives.
  • Support and ensure all aspects associated with the MEP technical and commercial parts of the overall project bid are executed in accordance with the company’s reconstruction procedures.
  • Provide guidance in the tender and award of MEP packages in accordance with the required contract pre-construction and procurement strategy, and objectives.
  • Ensure MEP team members ascertain temporary electrical requirements for their projects including load and energy assessments in line with the management system guidelines.
  • Take overall responsibility for MEP project delivery by providing the guidance, leadership and motivation to MEP Teams/ Package Managers reporting to him/ her.
  • Support the planning, allocation, and recruitment of key MEP Resources to manage delivery of projects.
  • Ensure MEP team members are managing their Packages in accordance with the full suite of MEP department management procedures and guidance documentation and specific project execution plans (PEPs).
  • Ensure MEP team members execute the finalisation of MEP installation and commissioning programmes to integrate with the main construction programme.
  • Ensure MEP team members carry out early involvement and liaison with the utility companies to ensure their infrastructural and interface requirements are understood, communicated, and adhered to.
  • Ensure MEP team members pursue the production of co-ordination and builders work drawings for approval and construction to meet the programme requirements.
  • Ensure the MEP teams implement the process of tracking of equipment & plant from submittal approvals through to samples and mock-ups/ ordering/ FATs/ delivery and quality checks are carefully managed.
  • Ensure MEP teams are focused on recognition of key risks to the project delivery by way of programme, contractual or commercial matters arising with mitigation plans in place.
  • Ensure MEP teams manage the formal QMS snagging/ quality walkdowns and associated progressive inspection and sign off of the MEP installations.
  • Ensure MEP teams are managing the MEP start-up and control of live energies in accordance with the company’s guidelines.
  • Ensure MEP teams are implementing and managing the development of site-specific ITP and Commissioning/ Handover Plans with the MEP Contractors.
  • Ensure MEP teams drive completion of the safety files and process for “soft landings”.
  • Promote the brand and offering by maintaining and building relationships with key project


Experiences & Skills

  • 10-15 years’ work experience in leading the MEP Management of large scale and complex MEP related Projects in the Life Sciences (Pharma) & Tech (semi-conductor) Sector is essential.
  • Good understanding of the MEP supply chain and dynamics in which the company operates. Understanding and experience in managing CFCI, OFCI and Client vendors.
  • Professional competence through operational involvement in all phases of large-scale complex projects from estimating, pre-construction, installation, commissioning, demonstration, and handover.
  • Can demonstrate technical, effective interpersonal and commercial skills necessary to deliver large/ multiple MEP Projects.
  • Understanding of H&S policies and live energy practices and have positive safety values and behaviours. Ability to demonstrate understanding of same in the Life Sciences construction environment.
  • Can demonstrate the drive for importance of implementation of QMS Systems, ITP & Commissioning/ Turnover/ Handover Plans.
  • Drive and initiative to identify and follow through on all tasks required for delivery.
  • Articulate/ strong communication skills.
  • Can motivate and inspire their team of MEP staff reporting to them and manage the project package workload effectively across the team.
  • Possess the clarity of purpose in objectives in project delivery.
  • Strong organisational skills taking a methodical and proactive approach.
  • Actively seek ways to share knowledge and mentoring of more junior staff.
  • Proven track record in dealing with multinational Life Sciences clients directly (meetings/ one to one basis)
  • Can demonstrate understanding of MEP LS&T delivery programmes/ sequence of works from contractor/ vendor onboarding, submittals/ approvals, delivery, install, commissioning, and turnover through to demonstration and handover to client or client validation teams.
  • Experienced in the overall management of MEP Packages on LS&T Projects (including Clean and Black Utilities, HVAC, E&I, I&C, Cleanroom / Lab environmental conditions and interfaces with the CSA elements).
  • Knowledgeable in current MEP regulations and standards and associated project pharma biased documentation / certification.
  • Experience proposing value engineering suggestions to improve efficiency in all areas.
