Your new company

As Curatorial Researcher (Digital) you will join the National Museum of Ireland who are known as Ireland's leading museum institution, with a strong emphasis on national and some international archaeology, Irish history, Irish art, culture, and natural history. Your new office is located in Dublin City, full time at Kildare Street and is accessible via public transport. NMI requires you to join their team for 6 months.

Your new role

As Curatorial Researcher (Digital) you will work on the preparation of content for the NMI online collection's portal on museum.ie, focussing on the Museum’s exhibitions and related collections and contributing to a range of accompanying online resources.

Your main duties will include creating audience-focused content for diverse audiences for sharing via the museum’s online collection's portal on museum.ie; undertaking research for the development of content relevant to audiences, while meeting the museum’s strategic aims; liaising with colleagues and relevant stakeholders in the creation and editing of content; cataloguing asset via the Collections Management Databases (Microsoft Access); identifying and selecting objects for photography in conjunction with curatorial staff.

In addition, you will liaise with the Photographic Archive and other museum departments as part of the online collection's workflow; support the museum’s digital workflow management; review and quality check successful migration to CIIM Middleware / User Interface; work on developing themes and stories suitable for various online audiences; edit existing records in the CMS to support the refinement of the Digital Collections (Online) Infrastructure; assist with the refinement of Public Access Standards, operational practices and quality control for NMI digital collections and assist in the assessment and estimation of time required for future cataloguing projects.

You will also supervise and train colleagues, when necessary, along with providing administrative and ad-hoc project support.

As Curatorial Researcher (Digital) you will work on the preparation of content for the NMI online collection's portal on museum.ie, focussing on the museum’s exhibitions and related collections and contributing to a range of accompanying online resources.


What you'll need to succeed

You will ideally hold a recognised honours degree with one of the following subjects as a major subject in the final degree examination: History, Archaeology, Material Culture or an equivalent qualification that is acceptable to the National Museum of Ireland. A post graduate qualification in a related field (such as archaeology, museology, collections management, archives, librarianship, digital humanities) is desirable.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Axiell Collections or equivalent cultural heritage collections management system is required along with excellent written and editorial skills and experience researching and developing content. Proficiency in proofreading and writing for the web and multimedia content and exposure of collections, asset management and CMS administration is required. Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise your workload and meet tight deadlines is necessary.
Other desirables include knowledge of Search Engine Optimisation and Accessibility, knowledge of the National Museum of Ireland collections, knowledge of the historical and social context of Early Mediaeval Ireland and good all-round knowledge of the archaeological collections of the National Museum of Ireland with an emphasis on those dating from the Early Mediaeval period.
With clear and relevant examples of your career achievements within a similar environment with proficient Digital Curatorial Researcher skills, you will be a very strong candidate for this role.
